Reading Together...well sort of
While we were in Colorado Callum received a box of nursery rhymes from my mom that you can record yourself reading. My mom and Brett's mom each recorded several on the rhymes and then sent the box home with us for Callum to enjoy and boy has he. He likes to open it up and listen to each of them introduce themselves and then he flips through the stories and while he doesn't always listen all the way through he at least gives each story a few seconds to start. What I find especially adorable about him "reading" this book is that it has given me the opportunity to see that the songs and play activities we have been doing with him have stuck. For instance, as soon as he hears "It is time for the Itsy Bitsy Spider, get your fingers ready," he already has them together ready to participate in the story. This afternoon he was "reading" This Little Piggy and this was the first time I had seen him "read" it and Grandma said get your toes ready (a body part we have not worked on I might add) and believe it or not Callum picked his foot up and pulled on his big toe. It is amazing daily how smart he is and how much he picks up just from being exposed to a variety of things.
