Does he get it?

This seems to be one of the most common question we have been getting as 'Kermit's' arrival is now less than a week away.  And our best answer is that we really don't know if Callum understands how his life is going to change.  There are times that he seems to "get it" but there are other times that it is obvious that this concept is completely foreign to him.

Brett and I have been talking about 'Kermit' coming (and yes we have accepted that Callum will likely call the baby 'Kermit' for a while) and the responses that we get from Callum are very varied.  About two weeks ago Brett was rocking Callum before bedtime and talking about how we all love Callum and still will even after 'Kermit' comes and Callum sat bolt upright and looked directly at Brett and very seriously said "'Kermit' food" and when Brett didn't respond immediately Callum put his hands either side of Brett's face, stared at him directly, and repeated the statement.  He was VERY concerned about what 'Kermit' would eat (and let me tell you he really doesn't want to share his "Callum food" which we have been talking about how only mommy and daddy can feed 'Kermit').  Earlier this week we were eating dinner and Brett first asked Callum can 'Kermit' live at our house to which Callum responded "NO." So Brett asked a follow-up questions about where "Kermit' was going to live and Callum responded "outside."  When pushed if he was going to sleep outside too he quickly responded "No Callum's bed."  It is unclear if he thinks he is getting a baby or a dog.  Yesterday while in the car I asked him if he was going to be a big brother and he responded "Next Week" and then this morning while in the driver's seat of the car we asked him where is 'Kermit' going to ride his pointed the backseat opposite of his carseat and said "there,"(and no the carseat is not installed yet; however, with Callum we had them installed for like 4 weeks before C came.  Our hospital bags aren't past either but we still have time).   So maybe he does get it, we just don't know, we will have to wait until at least Thursday to find out.
