Ten Fingers and Ten Toes...this is overrated right?? (This is how Brett started his recount last night of this event)
I debated sharing this or not but I decided that parenting is made up of the moments that reflect well on us and the ones that don't always paint us as perfect parents so here it is. Last night Finley suffered her first injury (and to be honest it was the first time we considered taking either of our children to a minor med). I had asked Brett to give her a bath and he decided to do it in the kitchen sink (he used the side with the drain not the garbage disposal side). While it was not as easy as he thought it would be, given how slippery she was, he powered through until she started to fuss and he went to lift her up and as he did this he found that her big toe was stuck in the drain (it came out as he lifted her up). She had a cut across the front of her toe and was missing a flap of skin on the inside of her toe so needless to say it bled. Mommy freaked out a little and we did consider taking her in; however, after 45 minutes of pressure, elevation, a tea bag (keep that in your tool kit as it has worked on both kiddos now; however, Callum's was a finger tip clipped with nail clippers), and some ice the bleeding slowed down and we were able to put a bandage on it. She was initially upset but she calmed quickly (with a nursing while we tried to stop the bleeding) and has been a trooper. We called the doctor this morning just to see if they wanted to see her before Wednesday (her well baby check) and they without missing a beat said she sounds okay and they will see us Wednesday but to keep an eye on it. So hopefully it really is nothing to worry about. Here is a picture on the bandage that she is now sporting and probably will be sporting at least a version of for a couple of days more. Moral of the story-there will be no more sink baths at this Balderson household.
